The 2005 SAPCT Advanced Craft Competition
This year's National Practical Competition was held at Edinburgh's Telford College, on 2nd June 2005
Craft and Advanced Craft competitions ran simultaneously over five hours and this year the Advanced Competition was judged by SAPCT officials Bill Whyte from Aberdeen College and Alistair Thompson from Dumfries and Galloway College.
In the Advanced Competition a challenging testpiece set by George Todd, Past President of the SAPCT from Falkirk included the hanging of contract wallcovering, lettering, stencilling, rag rolling, marbling, lining and the painting of the original SAPCT Logo design.

Angus College took first and second prize, and were represented by Wayne Shand, employed by Angus Decorating Group and Darren Davidson.

Runner up Darren Davidson told competition secretary, George Brown later he was absolutely delighted to take second place in his first ever competition. President of the SAPCT, Richard Haigh, thanked the Principal and Chief Executive Ray Harris for hosting the event and the satff in the P& D Department for all their efforts in preparing for the competition. This year's National Practical Competition was held at Angus College, on 3th June 2004
Angus College situated in the coastal town of Arbroath was the venue for this years Scottish Association of Painting Craft Teachers National Apprentice Competitions.
Craft and Advanced Craft competitions ran simultaneously over five hours and this year they were judged by Scottish Decorators Federation members and SAPCT officials.
In the Advanced Competition a challenging testpiece set by John Macdonald Past President of the SAPCT, included the hanging of contract wallcovering, lettering, stencilling, broken colour work, blending glaze colour and painting a geometric design.

Once again the competitors were able for the challenge with most completing the task and giving the judges are job choosing the overall winner. Ayr College took the first prize, and were represented by Natalie Raeside, employed in the family business Raeside Decorators of Kilmarnock.

This success for Natalie followed on from a previous competition win this year when she took first place in the Scottish Regional Heat of the UK competition for the Crown Young Decorator of the Year. John Murray from the painting and decorating department of Ayr College confirmed that the double success had been well received in the college and that Natalie should be looking forward to competing in the overall finals of YDY later in the year. President of the SAPCT, Richard Haigh, thanked the Principal Burt of Angus College for hosting the event and in particular, Kevin Murphy, Mike Swan and Charlie Cameron in the P& D Department for all their efforts in preparing for the competition. The results were as follows:-

The test piece was devised by Jim McKenzie (Past President of the SAPCT) and had a local theme with a silhouette of Rabbie Burns central to the design. The 5 hour test included design layout, lettering, blended stippling, rag rolling, lining and paperhanging.(See below)
